Without Confusion
for large ensemble (2018)

Work Preview

The title “Without Confusion” is translated from a Berber word and place, “Ouarzazate”, nicknamed “The door of the desert” and meaning “without noise”.

It was written as a memoir of my journey into the Sahara Desert in April 2017. The three chapters, Sunset, Night and Sunrise are reference to this experience. Without the noise of our modern world and immersed in the purity of nature’s sounds, the Sahara Desert, although harsh and unforgiving, is a place without confusion.

Workshop recording by the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra,

conducted by Christopher Austin, September 2017.
