About The Event

II Contemporary Festival 2022 of the International Music Festival of the Canary Islands

30 September-16 October 2022 The Government of the Canary Islands continues its commitment to contemporary academic music and launches a new edition of the Contemporary Festival which, linked to the Canary Islands Music Festival, will take place in Gran Canaria and Tenerife from September 30 to October 16. This second edition will feature the 'Hollywood' LucasVidal, as well as the Ensemble of the Royal Academy and other outstanding national and local ensembles. Master classes will also be organized with several of the guest musicians and for the first time a meeting of Canarian composers will be held, bringing together many of those who have managed to make a name for themselves outside the islands. A total of fourteen concerts will also feature the Galician group Vertixe Sonora, which will perform with mezzo-soprano Fredrika Brillembourg and under the direction of Nacho de Paz; the outstanding national saxophone quartet Sigma Project and the Palko-Varoch Duo, which stands out for its specialty in works for piccolo. The program is completed with two Canary Islands ensembles: the Ensemble Contemporáneo del Conservatorio Superior de Música and the Ensemble Difracción, which will perform with soprano Sonia de Munck. It will therefore be a showcase of the musical creation of the last century and especially of what is emerging nowadays, both on the international and national scene as well as locally, creating synergies between the Canary Islands production and what is being done in other parts of Spain and Europe. And, as in the last edition, it will serve to premiere compositions by Canarian authors, as well as from other geographical areas, which will be performed by several of the participating ensembles. There will be a total of 12 premieres, 8 of which correspond to composers from the islands.
