About The Event
Acclaimed as a “pianist of extraordinary gifts” (Gramophone), Clare Hammond returns to Pittville Pump Room with a programme blending darkness and light.
The first chapter explores the subtle melancholy of Clara Schumann’s Romances, the mystery and wonder of Fauré’s Nocturnes, and the twilight beauty of Beethoven’s much-loved ‘Moonlight’ Sonata. A new work by Sun Keting, commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society as part of its 2024 Composers programme, receive its world première. In the second phase, light, clarity and joy prevail with Mozart’s exuberant Sonata, the refracted glimmer of Debussy’s Reflets dans l’eau, and dazzling virtuosity of Chaminade and Debussy’s L’Isle joyeuse.
