Blood Moon
for ssaattbb (2025)
The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge and Director of Music Steven Grahl
perform 'Blood Moon' by Rockey Sun Keting (b.1993).
This composition and filmed performance were commissioned as
part of the Choir & Organ New Music 2025 series,
in partnership with The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge.
This piece is composed entirely of scat syllables, but it is not intended to have a jazz character. Instead, the music should feel light-hearted, dreamy, and gently drifting, evoking a sense of playful lethargy. Singers are invited to explore subtle improvisation within their scat phrases, but improvisation is optional and should only be attempted if singers feel comfortable doing so. The effect should be effortless and airy, highlighting a floating atmosphere.
